You might feel a little tender or have to watch what you eat for a few days, but it’s not nearly as bad as some of the misinformation online depicts it to be. 2. Myth: A dentist can do everything an oral surgeon can do

You Home Recovery

Depending on your surgery – most patients fully recover within a week. Recovery time may vary if your wisdom teeth may have been slightly more impacted.

Post Surgery wounds

In most cases, your surgeon will use dissolvable stitches to close the wound. These wounds will still be sensitive for a few months after surgery, however, the stitches dissolve themselves and don’t need to be taken out at a later stage. It’s important to note that although they are healing – they are still susceptible to infection over the course of the weeks after surgery.

Luckily, most people can resume most of their normal activities very soon after surgery. However, as your surgeon will discuss with you – there are certain lifestyle changes that will speed up recovery time and boost healing.

• Limit strenuous exercise
• Avoid smoking
• Do not drink with a straw
• Try your best to stick to liquids and smooth food for the first day or two
• Stay away from foods containing nuts, pits, and seeds

What to expect

With all surgeries, some pain, swelling, and bruising around your mouth and jaw is completely normal. Your doctor will provide you with gauze and ice packs for the first few hours post-surgery to help the swelling go down. Depending on the type of anesthesia you were under, you may feel slightly disorientated. Although recovery is fairly straightforward and won’t keep you from living your normal life for too long – it’s important to keep an eye on your wounds.
